Formatting guide

Type the shorthand, then space or Enter. It works anywhere in a line, including the first line of an empty note.

Type the marker on its own line and press Enter — a leading > is optional, so [!warning] alone is enough. Inside a callout, > + space nests another one (3 deep). Press Enter on an empty last line to step out, or Ctrl+Enter from anywhere. The toolbar's callout button does the same and shows which type you are in.

Any URL you type or paste becomes a link. Trailing ), , and . stay outside it.
Insert a table from the toolbar, then edit it in place. Tab and Shift+Tab indent and outdent list items. Pasted or imported Markdown tables and nested lists come through intact.
Everything above survives a round trip through Markdown, including callouts, nested lists, highlights and embedded images. Two things do not: table column alignment (|:--|--:|) and <https://…> autolinks, which come back as ordinary links.

Notes always live in this browser first. Drive gets a Typewell folder holding one .md file per note — plain markdown you can read, edit or move with anything. Scope is drive.file: Typewell sees only the files it created, nothing else in your Drive — which also means a file you add to that folder by hand stays invisible to it. Use Import for those. Deleting a note here moves the file to Drive's trash, which Google empties after 30 days; Typewell's own trash keeps it until you purge it. If a note is deleted on one side and edited on the other, the edit wins and the note comes back.

GitHub Gist optional second source

A single typewell-backup.json in a secret gist — an exact copy, unlike the markdown in Drive. Token needs only the gist scope. Stored in this browser only.
